Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard: a) 325 Maple Street, Kearny, NJ, 3 Front Overhead Metal Bay Doors. The employer exposed employees to the struck-by and crushing hazard of the overhead metal bay doors striking them as the photoelectric cells which would reverse the doors when workers may come underneath them were not in place. Violation observed on or about 05/04/04. Reference: ANSI-A156.8 - "Among other methods for abatement would include: Comply with ANSI or install photoelectric cells (electric eye)."
