Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a tree being felled: a)At the 12th Hole Green - Employees were operating a woodchipper within the length of a tree being felled; On or about 09/02/05. Abatement Notes: Among other methods, these methods are feasible to reduce the hazard: 1. Follow ANSI Z133.1-2000 For Arboricultural Operations - Pruning, Repairing, Maintaining, and Removing Trees, and Cutting Brush Safety Requirements Section 9.5.5,"Workers shall be positioned and their duties organized so the actions of one worker will not create a hazard for any other worker." 2. Follow ANSI Z133.1-2000 For Arboricultural Operations - Pruning, Repairing, Maintaining, and Removing Trees, and Cutting Brush - Safety Requirement Section 9.5.6, "Workers not directly involved in the removal operation shall be clear of the work area where practicable beyond the length of the tree unless a team of employees is necessary to remove a particular tree." ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19D
