Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling off the moving conveyor: a)Worksite - Employees walked on moving conveyor belts to move and sort refuse; on or about 3/1/07. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: 1)Enforce safe operating procedures prohibiting employees from walking on moving belts. 2)Enforce the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), Safety Standards for Conveyers and Related Equipment B20.1-1993. Note: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
