Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY OVERHEAD DOOR: a)Federal Express Maintenance Facility, on or about 12/13/04: Employees replacing a standard lift overhead door were not trained and were not provided, by the employer, with the manufactures installation instructions. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Follow the manufacturers installation instructions for standard lift doors along with parts list for the specific application. REF: Installation Instructions and Parts List from the Distributor. Ensure employees installing overhead doors receive training, and copies of manufacturers installation instructions.
