Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to PVC pipe used to transport compressed air at a pressure of 85 psi into the facility. "Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:" 1. Only use material with shatter resistance properties. (Reference Plastic Pipe Institute document). 2. Follow manufacturer recommendation on application. On or about July 22, 2004, employees were exposed to being struck by flying plastic pieces of PVC pipe used to transport compressed air to machines requiring it.uiring
