Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) hazards. On or about 07/17/05, at 4302 Mike Padgett Hwy., Augusta, GA: a) Employees were exposed to Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) hazards. Employees were operating and utilizing a PIT in an unsafe manner. Employee was in platform while traveling, platform not secured to lifting carriage, lifting personnel without an approved platform. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS": 1) Instruct employees during initial and refresher training and safety meetings, the proper safety precautions as outlined in the PIT operating manual. 2) Conduct periodic monitoring of PIT operations and correct deficiencies immediately.
