Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to fall hazard while working on a work platform attached on a
rough terrain
forklift:
Jobsite of 742 Highway 441 South (Golden Pantry), Eatonton, Georgia.
Employees were
working from a work platform attached to the forklift (Model
LM721-5-D,Serial # 318974)
without adequate guardrails, not being tied off and climbing up and down
the mast to gain access
to the platform. Employees were approximately 13 ft above the ground. O/A
8/25/05.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this situation
is to:
Follow the ASME B56.6-1992 for Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift
Trucks - Section
5.15 - Elevating Personnel.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
