North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North
Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of
employment and a
place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a)site - employees were exposed to the potential for fire and/or
associated hazards
when not provided with monthly fire drills.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this
hazard is to conduct fire drills at regularly scheduled intervals
(monthly), at
unexpected times and under varying conditions, insuring all persons in the
building and/or subject to the drill actually participate, covering such
points as the
operation and maintenance of the available first aid fire appliances, the
testing of
devices to alert guests, and a study of instructions for emergency duties,
in
cooperation with local authorities.
