Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que estan causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: At the basement of Pediatric Hospital, the employee were performing works of the machine maintenance. A mercury spill was found in the garbage container at the exterior of building due to a vapor pressure meter broken. The instrument was broken at moment of remove it from the room machine, leaking mercury at this and aisles, exposure to employees to mercury vapor without personal protective equipment and propper training. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is propper training about the instruments and the chemicals it contained. Hazard: Mercury vapor exposure. En el sotano del Hospital Pediatrico, los empleados estaban realizando trabajos de mantenimiento de maquinas. Un derrame de mercurio fue encontrado en el contenedor de basura en el exterior del edificio debido a un instrumento de medir vapor roto. El instrumento estaba roto al momento de removerlo del cuarto de maquinas, derramando mercurio en este y los pasillos, exponiendo a los empleados al vapor de mercurio sin equipo de proteccion personal y adiestramiento adecuado. Entre otros metodos, un metodo de correccion factible y aceptable para corregir este riesgo es adiestramiento adecuado acerca de los instrumentos y los quimicos que contienen.
