Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hoist pendant controls not being marked for direction and no inspections of hoist: (a)630 New York Avenue, Rochester, PA: On or about 1-19-05 the pendant control for the one-ton hoist used on a daily basis did not have the controls marked to indicate direction of travel. (ANSI B30.16, 16-2.1.1.2 Controls) (b)630 New York Avenue, Rochester, PA: On or about 1-19-05 the employer did not conduct frequent or periodic inspections of the one-ton hoists used in the facility. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to mark the functions of the pendant controls and to develop inspection procedures as outlined in ANSI B30.16.
