Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employeesin that employees were exposed to fall hazards: (a)The mill elevator used by employees at the work place had not been maintained or inspected within the last six months. Employees working around or using the elevator were exposed to fall hazards. Feasible methods to correct the hazards include, but are not limited to, the following recommendations in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A17.1 1996. (1)Inspect the elevator every six months; and (2)Install a data plate that indicates the Code and edition at the time of inspection. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
