Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not protected from automatic restart of metal-cutting saws upon restoration of power after an interruption in power. Maintenance Shop. The Jet horizontal bandsaw was not equipped with an anti-automatic restart device to prevent the automatic restart of the saw upon the restoration of power after a power failure/interruption. One feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the American National Standards Institute, Inc. standard, ANSI B11.20-2003 "Safety Requirement for Metal Sawing Machines", Sections 6.7 and 6.11 and/or ANSI/NFPA 79-2002 "Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery", Section 7.5 There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item.
