5(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to caught in hazards from the automatically controlled, portable conveyors. On and before 03/22/05 employees were loading and unloading parts onto and off of the conveyor belts (approximately 80) stationed between the mechanical power presses in the plant. The portable conveyors were not equipped with emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stop devices. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to correct these hazards is to comply with the requirements outlined in the American National Standards Institute ANSI/ASME B20.1 Safety Standards for Conveyors and Related Equipment.
