Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees
in that employees
were exposed to: drinking of water not certified as potable:
Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico:
El patrono no
proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten
causando o que
puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados
estaban expuestos
a: consumo de agua no certificada como potable:
a)Workplace, kitchen and dinning room - The water that was used in the
island,
for drinking and cooking, was obtained by accumulation of rain in reservoir
tanks.  This water had never been certified as potable, according to the
requirements of the Puerto Rico Department of Health.
Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this hazard are:  To perform a laboratory analysis of the water in
the
reservoir tanks, according to the Puerto Rico Department of Health
requirements, for determination of water potability.  Meanwhile, provide
the
employees with some source of potable water, for example bottled water or
other alternatives.
a)Lugar de trabajo, cocina y comedor - El agua que se usaba en la isla para
tomar y cocinar, era obtenida por acumulacion de agua de lluvia en tanques
de
reserva (cisternas), esta agua nunca habia sido certificada como potable,
de
acuerdo a los requisitos del Departamento de Salud de Puerto Rico.
Entre otros metodos, algunos metodos de correccion factibles y aceptables
para
corregir este riesgo son:
Llevar a cabo un analisis de laboratorio del agua de las cisternas, de
acuerdo a
los requerimientos del Departamento de Salud de Puerto Rico, para
determinacion de la potabilidad del agua. Mientras tanto, proveer a los
empleados con alguna fuente de agua potable, por ejemplo agua embotellada u
otras alternativas."
