Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to:
a)  Worksite, 930 East Market Street, Bethlehem PA - On or about December
21, 2004 at 15:40 hours
employees engaged in roof truss installation were exposed to injury from
being struck by the
collapsing truss roof components as the trusses were not adequately
stabilized with temporary bracing.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to utilize the
recommendations of the Truss Plate Institute and Wood Truss Council of
America contained on the BCSI-B1
Summary Sheet Guide for Handling, Installing and Bracing of Metal Plate
Connected Wood Trusses.  These
recommendations would include but not be limited to the following:
1. Provide Top Cord Temporary Lateral Bracing a minimum of 4 feet on
center
as recommended in
the BCSI-B1 Publication and figures B1-23 & B1-24.
2. Provide Top Cord Temporary Diagonal Bracing as recommended in the
BCSI-B1 Publication and
figures B1-24
3. Provide Bottom Cord Temporary/Permanent Lateral and Diagonal Bracing as
recommended in the
BCSI-B1 Publication and figures B1-25 & B1-26.
4. Provide Web Member Bracing as recommended in the BCSI-B1 Publication
and figures B1-28.
5. Utilize a minimum of two 10d, 12d or 16d nails driven flush for all
bracing and spacer attachments
as required by BCSI-B1 Publication.
Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date.  The
certification shall include a
statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and
states employees and their
representatives were informed of this abatement.tives
