Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by collapsing truss roof components due to inadequate bracing: a) Worksite - Brookview Lane, Lower Pottsgrove Township, PA 19464 - On or about May 22, 2005 a metal plate connected wood truss collapsed during installation of a partition wall. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to utilize the recommendations of the Truss Plate Institute and Wood Truss Council of America publications Building Component Safety Information, Guide to Good Practice For Handling, Installing, & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses BCSI 1-03 These recommendations would include but not be limited to the following: 1. Provide top cord temporary continuous lateral bracing of appropriate material a maximum of 8 feet on center as recommended in the BCSI-B1 publication and figures B1-23 & B1-24 contained there in. 2. Provide top cord temporary diagonal bracing for the continuous lateral bracing method as recommended in the BCSI-B1 publication and figure B1-24 contained there in. 3. Provide bottom cord temporary/permanent lateral and diagonal bracing as recommended in the BCSI-B1 publication and figures B1-25 & B1-26 contained there in. 4. Provide web member bracing as recommended in the BCSI-B1 publication and figures B1-28 contained there in. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.tives
