Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to live electrical parts in areas where there was the
potential for water:
60 Harris Road, Avon: The employer did not provide the following live
electrical equipment
with covers and grounds to protect employees from electrical shocks:
A. Boiler Room:
1. Relay transformer to air conditioner had no cover
2. Transformer by Western Electric had no cover
3. Florescent light above Exit door was not grounded
B. Upper Deck Area:
1. Refrigerator is not grounded
Among others, one feasible abatement method to protect employees from
electrical hazards
including, but not limited to, ungrounded energized equipment/uncovered
energized wiring
would be to hire a State of Connecticut licensed electrician to make all
repairs to the electrical
equipment.

floor channels used for directing water containing feces and urine from
washed kennels.
One feasible abatement method, among others, would be to inspect after the
cleaning of the
troughs for replacement of the grates and/or implement another method
animal excrement.

were exposed to severe lacerations of face and head and puncture wounds to
eyes and head from
falling wire and plexiglass roofs on kennel runs:
60 Harris Road, Avon:  The employer did not maintain the kennel roofs in
safe condition.
Employees are exposed to head, face and eye injuries during the cleaning
of the kennel runs and
the retrieving of the dogs kept in these kennels.
One feasible abatement method, among others, to protect employees from
lacerations and
puncture wounds to their upper torso would be to guard the sharp pointed
ends of the wire, as
well as referencing the Animal Boarding Establishment Regulations
established by the
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

were exposed to unsanitary conditions including, but not limited to, feces
left in aisleways, mice
droppings, excessive mounds of dog and cat hair throughout grooming area,
large
quatities of
dog and cat bedding, soiled with feces and urine, stored in aisleways,
disruption of air flow due
to hair clogged filters at furnace area and soiled bedding thrown on
floors in wash room:
60 Harris Road, Avon:  The employer did not ensure sanitary conditions for
employees working
in the lower deck area. The droppings of mice were found, dog feces in
aisles, dirty bedding
from kennels left on the floor, and excessive mounds/balls of hair
accumuliation on shelves,
floors,tops of kennels, and other equipment.
One feasible method of abatement, among others, would be to have regular/
routine inspections
of the areas mentioned along with mandatory cleaning schedules for feces
on floors and bedding
in compliance with the recommendations made by the "Animal Boarding
Establishment and The
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
