General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosion hazards: Building #2,Walker In-Floor Products Buffer Operation: Aluminum Walker Product Cover Plates were buffed in a ventilated enclosure and the dust collected into the Rand Bright dust collector # 3475. The dust collector system was not designed in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard (NFPA) 651 Machining and Finishing of Aluminum and the Production and Handling of Aluminum Powders-1998. The dust collection system did not capture all of the aluminum dust generated. The unit was located inside of the building and was not ventilated to the outside. Ventilation for the water collection sump was not continuously maintained. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard would be to design and install a dust collection system, that meets the requirements of NFPA 651, to properly collect and contain all of the aluminum dust that is generated. This company was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard which was contained in OSHA inspection number 306413485, Citation number 1, Item I, issued on 09/20/2004, with a final order date of 10/28/2004, with respect to a workplace located at 60 Woodlawn Street, West Hartford, CT 06110.rd,
