Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to injury from being struck by falling loads and/or lift
parts:
(a)  For the employees working under the Western automotive hoist without
the use of
the mechanical safety lock, located at 210 East Main Street, Leeds, North
Dakota.
Abatement Note:
Among other methods, the following are feasible and acceptable abatement
methods to correct
the hazards:
1.  Institute a preventative maintenance program according to
manufacturer's
specifications.
2.  Maintain the automatic mechanical safety device to hold the lift.
3.  Provide training to employees on the proper use of the auto lift.
4.  Ensure lifts are marked with their rated load capacity.
5.  Display the lift operator instruction in a conspicuous location. ANSI
B153.1 describes
industry accepted methods to control hazards related to auto lifts.
