Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
In the sawmill, located at 210 Polk 283, Hatfield, Arkansas, the employer
did not
provide safe clearance between ignition sources, such as  light fixtures,
heaters, and
flame-producing devices, and combustible materials as required in the 2000
International
Fire Code, section 305, Ignition Sources, Paragraph 305.1, in that
adequate clearance
was not maintained between the pipe of the shop-made wood-burning stove
which
extended through a hole in the roof of the mill and the decking of the
roof, exposing
employees to the hazards of fire.
Among other feasible means of abatement, one acceptable method of
abatement
is to
install double-walled pipe for the stove where it passes through the
combustible wood
structure.
