Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employee in that
employees were exposed to hazardous conditions by operating a Ridgid,
Model 300 Power
Drive pipe threader with the guard missing from the foot safety switch:
a- 476-478 Union Avenue, Middlesex, NJ 08846. The employer allowed his
employee
to operate a Ridgid, Model 300 Power Drive pipe threader with the guard
missing
from the foot safety switch pedal exposing him to potential crushing and
entanglement
of hands with the rotating parts. CSHO observed on or about 06/08/05.
ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD,
AMONG OTHER MEANS, WOULD BE FOR THE COMPANY TO ENFORCE
THEIR EXISTING SAFETY AND HEALTH PROGRAM AND PROVIDE
ADDITIONAL TRAINING FOR OPERATING, MAINTENANCE AND
SERVICING EQUIPMENT POWER DRIVE PIPE THREADERS.
