Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to unguarded rotating parts of Vermeer Stump Cutting Machine #SC252: a/ Astro Rents/North Plainfield Site - Shop/Yard Area: Vermeer Stump Cutting Machine(s) #SC252 (all four(4) machines regardless of manufacturer) - Procedures outlined in the Operations Manual are not followed to ensure maintenance/service operators and/or mechanics are safe when providing maintenance/servcice operations. Observed 2/6/06. One feasible and acceptable method to correct this condition is to train the maintenance/service operators and/or mechanics in the procedures outlined in the Operations Manual.
