Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees exposed to a crushing hazard while using Worth lifts with defective and worn out parts such as chain rollers and over lift prevention cables located at the top of the lifts. (b) Employees exposed to a crushing hazard while using a Challenger hydraulic lifts with defective locking device. (c) Employees exposed to hazards such as but not limited to crushing, pinching while using auto lifts which are not maintained on a regular basis. One feasible and acceptable method to abate these hazards would be to follow the recommendations of the 1990 ANSI B153.1 and the Safety tips from the Automotive Lift Institute.
