Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard
of being struck by a dropped load due to defective safety latches provided
on the hoist hooks of the 10
Ton floor-operated crane located on the west side of shop and the 20 Ton
floor operated drane located
on the northeast side of the shop. Cranes are used to lift heavy equipment
such as, but not limited to,
stump grinders, trenchers, and brush chippers.
Among other methods,one feasible and acceptable abatement method is
provide and maintain
safety latches on all crane hooks. Reference American National Standard
