North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazard of falling trucks and cars from defective vehicle lifts: a)service garage room 1, underground lift, west side second from south end, safety locks were missing from support columns. b)service garage room 1, east side, Rotary 7000 lift, serial number 1780537, locks were missing from arms. c)service garage room 1, east side, Wheeltronics 11000 lift, serial number T1100361, locks were not operating properly. d)service garage room 1, east side, Rotary 7000 lift nearest service manager's office, safety locks have been removed. e)service garage room 2, west side, Rotary lift, serial number L730537, had loose bolts and low fluid so that lift could not support loads when fully raised. f)service garage room 2, west side, John Bean lift, serial number 931GP005, had broken locks on lifting jacks. g)service garage, employer did not conduct either frequent or infrequent inspections of lifts. h)service garage, employer did not provide training for lift operators in the inspection and operation of lifts nor provided documentation of such training. AMONG OTHER METHODS, FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT INCLUDE: 1.Repair of lifts by qualified technicians. 2.Establishing a program of regular lift inspections following the lift manufacturers' instructions. 3.Train operators of lifts and document the training.
