Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to possible crushing hazards: a.On or about November 3, 2005, the employer failed to ensure that jacks were firmly supported at the base in such a manner that they could not shift under a load. Among other methods, a feasible means of abatement would be leveling the floor area where the mechanic performed work on truck engines, transmissions, etc. and/or installing a permanent jacking system [reference: American National Standard, Safety Standards for Cableways, Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Hooks, Jacks and Slings; JACKS ANSI B30.1-1975 or 1998]. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.TION
