recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to severe burn injuries from a potential dust explosion
hazard that could have
resulted from fine wood dust generated by the saw operation:
(a)Saw Area - The employer failed to contain the fine wood dust genrated
by the
Depaul web saw operation, on or about January 16, 2007.
Abatement Note:  Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable
abatement method
to correct this hazard is to comply with National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) 664
"Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Explosions in Wood Processing and
Woodworking Facilities", 2002 Edition.  This includes providing collection
equipment
of sufficient size and capacity to maintain the required airflow and
efficiently separate
the wood dust from the air before the air is exhausted per Section
8.2.2.5.1.1 of NFPA
664.
