Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a) Warehouse - Production Area: An employee who was attempting to retrieve a box from Section C-18 of the shelving rack system was raised on the forks of Daewoo fork lift truck, Serial Number BN - 00042, Model Number BC20T, was not protected from the hazard of falling to the floor below by the use of a work platform.. Violation occurred on 2/18/2005. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable method of abatement, among others, is to provide a "safety platform" used in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Standards B56.1 - 2000, Section 4 Safety Standards for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks and/or a work platform designed for this type of work. Abatement certification is required for this violation.
