(a) An employer shall do everything necessary to protect the life, health,
and
safety of employees including, but not limited to
(4)furnishing to each employee employment and a place of employement that
are
free from recognized hazards that, in the opinion of the commissioner, are
causing or are likely to cause death, or serious physical harm to
employees.
EXAMPLE: The employer failed to provide a safe, manufactured approved, high
pressure plant (supplied) air transportation system resulting in employee
exposure to serious hazards from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) thermoplastic
piping
used as a delivery for line pressure over 125 psi in both shops.The PVC
pipes
are prohibited from above ground tranportation of compressed air and gas
(unless encased in a shatter resistant material). Employees are exposed to
hazards from exploding, plastic schapnel pieces and uncontrolled release of
hose fittings plugged into wall mounted receivers at eye level.
