Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about February 22, 2006, at a site located at 3708 North Prospect, Peoria, IL, Snyder Construction Company had employees exposed to the hazard of being struck and crushed by inadequately braced, fastened, and loaded wood trusses. Feasible means of abatement could have been achieved by following the truss manufacturer guidance which also incorporates Building Component Safety Information BSCI B1-03 Guide for Handling, Installing and Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses prepared by the Truss Plate Institute and the Wood Truss Council of America, the BSCI-B1 Summary Sheet which was provided to the employer, and consulting a professional engineer.
