Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: Each employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees. Location: Basement storage closet near loading dock, 378 Prospect St. Barre VT Violation: The employer did not provide a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards when oxygen cylinders were located adjacent to the open walk area of a storage closet and the cylinders were not secured to prevent them from falling over which could cause them to explode or rocket and become a danger to employees. This hazard is recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Compressed Gas Association, as well as, National Fire Protection Association.
