Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a suspended load handled by lifting equipment: a)Bridge #9, West Belt: The splices in the wire rope slings were formed with wire rope clips. The slings were used to lift the concrete safety parapet curbs which were removed from the bridge deck, on or about 4/10/2007. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1.Use a manufactured sling with a proof-tested safety factor rated load capacity.
