Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to explosive fragmentation hazards: Employees were exposed to explosive fragmentation hazards from plastic PVC pipe being used to distribute compressed air throughout both production buildings. Employees were exposed to the hazard of working around lengths of plastic PVC pipe being used to distribute compressed air (at 120 psi) throughout the buildings. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD: Is to replace the PVC piping with a type of pipe that is approved for transporting compressed gases in above ground locations such as metal pipe as recommended by the Plastic Pipe Institute and ANSI/ASME B31.1 1973 Power Piping. 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation that the abatement of the above violation is complete.
