General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the supporting structure used to support a 2 ton chain hoist, which used to lift scrap car transmissions was not inspected and load tested to ensure the structure could support the load(s) applied when using the hoist. Referance: ANSI B30.16-1973, section 16-2.1.3 Installation, Paragraph 16-2.1.3.6 Support: Supporting structure, including trolleys, monorail, crane, if any, shall have a load rating at least equal to that of the hoist. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazards is to have all supporting structures used with overhead hoists inspected and load tested to determined the load(s) can be sustained without damage.
