Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: 18hydrochloric acid and water at 120 degrees Fahrenheit. (a)Pickle line - A hose was placed on the drain from the SMS DMAC tank to drain to the work area below. The SMS tanks contained about 18hydrochloric acid and water at a temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The hose was removed during the inspection, however OSHA recommends that a permanent drain be installed. The overflow reservoir section built into the tanks is not large enough to capture the capacity of the tanks.
