Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: A potential explosion hazard due to improper storage of the incompatible chemicals of an organo peroxide, acids and flammable liquids such as paint thinners. These products were observed on or about 5-23-05 being stored adjacent to each other in the outside storage trailer. Employees were exposed to the risk of chemical burns and/or smoke inhalation in that separate storage areas or a substitution of chemicals had not been established. Among one method, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this would be to: a. Provide separate storage areas for the organo peroxides and the noncompatibles such as acids and flammable liquids, as referenced in the material safety data sheet.
