What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons: routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to fire hazards due to a Snap-on Parts Washer not
being installed in
accordance with manufacturer guidelines:
(a) Colorado Fasteners, Inc., 11450 N Cherokee St. Unit B-2, Northglenn, CO
80234: On or before 8/9/05, the employer did not ensure that the Snap-on
Part
Washer (#PBD3222) was installed in accordance with manufacturer
guidelines. The
employer modified the parts washer by installing an additional solvent
basin for the
soaking of equipment. The height of the solvent basin would not allow for
the safety
cover to close on the parts washer in the event of a fire. The condition
would
potentially expose employees to smoke inhalation and burns.
Among other methods, examples of feasible and acceptable methods to
correct this hazard
include:
(1) Remove the solvent basin to allow the safety cover to close uniformly;
(2) Lower the solvent basin to allow the safety cover to close uniformly;
(3) Contact the manufacturer for input on approved solvent basis add-on
options.
