Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a)Warehouse, on or about 12/28/05, warehouse freight elevator used to carry items such as carpets, appliances and furniture from the first floor to the second floor was not equipped with interlocks on the doors and no periodic inspections have been performed on the elevator as required by ASME A17.1-2000. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS CITATION Feasible means of abatement are: 1.To begin a schedule of periodic inspections by an authorized person as required by ASME A17.1-2000 par. 8.11.1, 8.11.2 and 8.11.3. 2.To install either interlocks or mechanical locks which meet the requirements of ASME A17.1-2000 paragraph 2.12.1.5 on both elevator doors to prevent employees from opening the door when the car is at another floor.r
