Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard from an uncontrolled release of anhydrous
ammonia.
a.  On or about 2/27/06, Dix Avenue plant, an employee was splashed with
anhydrous ammonia
when he removed an unmarked drain plug from the bottom of the Vogt P24,
tube ice machine
condenser unit.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to:
Provide a positive
identification of piping system contents by lettered legend giving the
name in full or abbreviated
form.  Arrows may be used to indicate the direction of flow.  Where it is
desirable or necessary
to give the supplementary information such as hazards or use of the piping
system content. This
may be done by additional legend or by color applied to the entire system,
or as colored band.
