Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment or a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a potential hazard of being "struck by" plastic projectiles from a ruptured polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compressed air line: (a) Throughout the facility along walls and ceiling, PVC pipe, used to transport compressed air, On or about April 19,2006 - There was not an approved compressed air line pipe enclosed in conduit or casing. Employees are exposed to a hazard of being struck by pieces (shards) of exploding PVC pipe. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: To completely enclose the plastic service line in conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
