Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a potential hazard of being "struck by" plastic projectiles from a ruptured polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compressed air line: (a) Throughout maintenance shop, On or about 10/26/06 - Along the shop walls, 3/4" Genova PK11 PVC pipe was being used to transport compressed air to tools and equipment in the shop. The PVC pipe was not an approved compressed air line pipe enclosed in conduit or casing. Hazard of being struck by shards of PVC in the event the pipe exploded. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to completely enclose the plastic service line in conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
