Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by overhead parts of heavy equipment: (a) 36" Influent Force Main, Fouts Mill Rd., Douglasville, Georgia - The bucket of an excavator being held over an employee's head and used to shield an employee, who was inside a trench box, from falling rocks. Among other methods, one feasible abatement method included following the instructions and warnings outlined in the operation and maintenance manual to ensure that buckets are not allowed over workers during operation or as a shield. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
