Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to flying plastic projectiles hazards due to mechanical failure of the facility air system operating at a pressure in excess of 100 psi as referenced in ANSI/ASME B31.8 1999. a)On and prior to May 9, 2006, a one inch PVC pipe air system was used to transport compressed air from the air compressor in the welding area, west side of the building, with an operating pressure of 120 psi. Among other methods, one feasible and accepted means to correct this hazard is to replace the current PVC compressed air piping system with materials suitable for maximum air pressure such as metal pipes or other approved hoses. ***CERTIFICATION, WITH DATE AND METHOD OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM***
