General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not protected from automatic restart of metal-cutting saws. The following saws did not have magnetic restart capability: a) Hobart Vertical Bandsaw in mine battery room, ser #5216D, model #11-1F4-147, and b) Craftsman 10" Table Saw, ser #0424, mod #152-221140. ANSI B11.10 (1990), Section 4.2.3.4 states that "in the event of an interruption in the electrical power supply, the machine shall not restart automatically when power is restored". A feasible means of abatement would be to install a motor control device or magnetic restart to prevent automatic restart after an interruption in the power supply, as required by ANSI B11.10 (1974). Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d). Abatement complete.
