Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to suspended loads held by overhead hoists that were not periodically inspected: a)Kill Floor, south end; Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling loads, such as hogs and cows, by using three 1 ton underslung cranes that had not been inspected with a periodical inspection (at least every 12 months) to determine wear, deterioration and malfunction as per ANSI B30.16-1. One underslung hoist used for the gate had the safety latch missing from the load hook. One method of abatement, among others, would be to have this electric hoist inspected on a periodic bases (at least every twelve months) as required by ANSI B30.16-1 and then to make necessary repairs. ***CERTIFICATION, WITH DATE AND METHOD OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM***D
