General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by corrugated sheet metal roofing panels that were damaged during a storm in July of 2006: a)In peril of collapse of the roof, employees of American Pallet-Midwest, LLC perform numerous tasks within the manufacturing building of the establishment, such as but not limited to, different fork truck operations and the assembling and dissembling of pallets. Employees are exposed to overhead hazards of the falling ceiling, while performing designated tasks within the manufacturing building of the establishment. The ceiling is made of corrugated sheet metal and some of the sheets have fallen and been removed but there are still some sheets that are hanging dangerously over the heads of the employees while they perform assigned tasks. The ceiling has been damaged since July 19, 2006. Among other feasible methods of abatement would be to: 1.Move all operations and employees that are underneath or within close proximity of the damaged ceiling away from the hazardous area until roof repairs are completed. 2.Reinspect the structure to determine compliance in accordance to the International Conference of Building Officials: Uniform Building Code - 1997 Section 3402- Maintenance. **CERTIFICATION, WITH DATE AND METHOD OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM**ED
