General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause serious physical harm to employees exposed to struck by hazards while working with an underhung hoist system. Kaskaskia Tool and Machine, Inc., adjacent to the CNC boring mills, employee was hoisting material with two ton Yale underhung hoist in which the pendant push buttons were not marked for identification of function exposing employee to being struck by load. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow American National Standard, ASME B30.11-1993, Monorails and Underhung Cranes, Section 11-1.9.1. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
