Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while operating an underslung crane, with an unmarked pendant control: a)South side, production section; on the Yale 2 ton underslung crane, the controller was not marked to indicate the direction of resultant motion when the buttons were depressed and the safety latch was bent, as per ANSI B30.11. One method among other methods of abatement would be to install the markings onto the control. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
