North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina:  The
employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment free
from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were exposed to electrical hazards:
a)  Employer failed to provide a temporary migrant labor camp which was
free from electrical hazards
in that the house at 603 Broad St. did not have approved electrical
service.  Electricity was being
supplied to this house by way of extension cords running along the ground
and through windows from
the house at 601 Broad St. The windows through which the cords were
running had been closed and
were pinching the cords. Some cords had exposed live wires.  In one
instance, the bare live wires of a
cord having no plug were connected to the blades of an ungrounded
multi-outlet plug into which three
other cords were plugged.
Abatement Notice: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to
abate this hazard is to
eliminate the use of all temporary wiring and provide electrical service
which meets National Electric
code and all state and local codes.
