Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards taht were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the employer fails to make necessary repairs, resulting in the operation of the hoist hooks with defective or missing parts affecting the safe operation and likely to result in serious injury to employees. a)Ameridrives International, Inc., North Bay, above Daewoo Machine, - On or about, 4/3/08, a LYNX 1/2 ton hoist had a hook attached with a defective/non-closing safety latch. b)Ameridrives International, Inc., Center Bay, above Monarch VMC 75 - On or about, 4/3/08, a LYNX 1/2 ton hoist had a hook attached with a defective/non-closing safety latch. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible means of abatement to correct the hazards, replace the latch on the hook and to conduct periodic and frequent inspections of all the hoists and hooks to ensure they are free from recognized hazards as required by ASME B30.16-2003 Overhead Hoists (Underhung).
